How long does the entire experience take?
While the actual flight in the air lasts approximately 1 hour (covering between 5 to 25 km depending on wind speed and direction), the entire excursion takes about 4 to 5 hours. This includes an early morning pickup (around 4:00 AM – 4:30 AM), watching the balloon inflate at the launch site, the flight, a traditional champagne bush breakfast upon landing, and a game drive back to your lodge or camp by mid-morning.
Why does the flight start so early in the morning?
Flights launch at sunrise for two critical reasons: morning air is cool and stable, which is essential for safe balloon navigation, and early morning is when the Masai Mara’s wildlife and predators are most active.
How much does a Masai Mara hot air balloon safari cost?
The hot air balloon safari in the Masai Mara starts from $450 per person with Elwama Tours. This price is fully inclusive of your dawn camp transfers, the 1-hour sunrise flight, a traditional champagne celebration, and a hot gourmet bush breakfast.
What happens if the weather is bad on my scheduled day?
Safety is our absolute priority. If the pilot determines that wind speeds, heavy rain, or thick fog make flying unsafe, the flight will be canceled. If this happens, we will work to reschedule your flight for the following morning or provide you with a full refund.
Are there any age or physical restrictions?
For safety reasons, children under 7 years old or shorter than 4 feet are not permitted. Ballooning is also not suitable for pregnant women or anyone with severe back, neck, or knee injuries due to the potential for bumpy landings.
